Hall and Sarah DeNormandie Bailey began a candy business called Ye Kyng\u2019s Towne Sweetes, which they operated out of the house owned by the Hall family at 215 Main Street (below). Miss Hall managed the manufacturing, while Mrs. Bailey managed the sales. By 1910, they employed 8 women year round and up to 13 during the busy summers. Not only did they sell candy, but also other small items, like baskets or baby socks, made by Kingston women. They opened tea rooms in the two parlors.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8255\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8255\" style=\"width: 575px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingstonpubliclibrary.org\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/Local_History_Images\/hou-00-0096-lhr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8255\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kingstonpubliclibrary.org\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/Local_History_Images\/hou-00-0096-lhr.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior of house at 215 Main Street, Kingston, MA\" width=\"575\" height=\"449\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8255\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">215 Main Street, 1972<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 1920, their growth necessitated moving to a second, larger location: the building which was previously George E. Cushman\u2019s store at 193 Main Street (below).\u00a0They sold their candies not only in this shop, but also in stores across Southeastern Massachusetts. During the time that Ye Kyng&#8217;s Towne Sweetes was at this location, Isaac and Dorothy Hathaway took over operation of the business.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8265\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8265\" style=\"width: 587px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingstonpubliclibrary.org\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/Local_History_Images\/pla-08-0080-jrvhs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8265\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kingstonpubliclibrary.org\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/Local_History_Images\/pla-08-0080-jrvhs.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior of George E.
