Major Bradford likely earned his title during\u00a0 King Philip&#8217;s War (1675-76).<\/p>\n<p>Major John Bradford is also remembered as a benefactor of the town, as he gave 14 acres of land to the North or Jones River Precinct of Plymouth (now Kingston) in 1717 for the purposes of a \u201cBurying Place,\u201d a \u201cTraining Field,\u201d and a \u201cMeeting House&#8221; &#8212; now the land on which the Old Burying Ground, Training Green, First Parish Church, and old Town House sit.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7320\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7320\" style=\"width: 604px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kingstonpubliclibrary.org\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/Local_History_Images\/hou-02-0087-ed-n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7320 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kingstonpubliclibrary.org\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/Local_History_Images\/hou-02-0087-ed-n-1024x617.jpg\" alt=\"Major John Bradford House, in snow\" width=\"604\" height=\"364\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7320\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Major John Bradford House, taken by Emily Fuller Drew circa 1925<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Jones River Village Club (now the Jones River Village Historical Society) purchased and restored his homestead at 50 Landing Road in 1921 before opening it to the public in August of the same year.
