{"id":634,"date":"2010-10-15T22:57:14","date_gmt":"2010-10-15T22:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/piqueoftheweek.wordpress.com\/?p=634"},"modified":"2010-10-15T22:57:14","modified_gmt":"2010-10-15T22:57:14","slug":"howlands-lane-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kplma.org\/pique\/2010\/10\/15\/howlands-lane-bridge\/","title":{"rendered":"Howland&#8217;s Lane Bridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kplma.org\/pique\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/pla-98-0138-lhr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-652\" title=\"pla-98-0138-lhr\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kplma.org\/pique\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/pla-98-0138-lhr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"628\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two years ago, we <a href=\"http:\/\/piqueoftheweek.wordpress.com\/2008\/10\/09\/railroadbridge\/\">noted<\/a> that the wooden planks in the Howland\u2019s Lane\u00a0bridge over the railroad tracks needed to be replaced, an \u00a0issue had been under discussion for a decade. \u00a0The bridge, built in the 1870s  and\u00a0renovated during the 1930s, is  now closed for repairs. \u00a0Rocky Nook&#8217;s primary water main, carried over the tracks underneath the bridge, will\u00a0also  be  upgraded. One can hardly imagine the\u00a0many trains that  now go to steadily stream to and from Plymouth each day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kplma.org\/pique\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/pla-98-0002-del.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-650\" title=\"pla-98-0002-del\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kplma.org\/pique\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/pla-98-0002-del.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kplma.org\/pique\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/pla-98-0002-del.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.kplma.org\/pique\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/pla-98-0002-del-300x234.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Standish monument already stood across the Bay, but other familiar elements were missing. \u00a0Howland&#8217;s Lane was not yet unpaved. No water line crossed the bridge. No one lived in Rocky Nook.
